Message They work well for what they are intended, which is a between-wash removal of very light road dust and minor contamination. The process for cleaning with a QD is to dust the car off with an appropriate car duster, mist with QD, and very gently wipe with clean MFs, folding / replacing often to keep a clean side on the paint. This will not work if your car is dirty. The hot rod guy got away with it because he probably didn't drive his car much, and as a result never really got it dirty. If you try to wash a dirty car with QD, you will mar the paint.

Optimum No-Rinse or a similar rinse-less wash is the only proper alternative to a full 'standard' wash.
