| I drove out to the Alabama Dragway in Steele AL yesterday to meet Eric (z324u) and see if he could get in a few good passes before the Import Faceoff event next Sunday in Montgomery. The car performed very well. Check out Eric's post from last night I sent him a replacement CAS earlier in the week and was anxious to see what the car would do with the timing issues fixed that we had a couple weeks ago. We were also trying out an electric water pump set-up that allows him to cool the car down very quickly between passes. The first pass Eric lined up against a very nice tubbed out Camaro, under an unexpected pro tree. They just went the 1/8th and the Camaro got a big jump. We were excited to get on the track and had forgotten to drop the tire pressure which was nearly 30 psi so Eric spun terribly off the line, but he still reeled the Camaro in at the end. Too much tire pressure There were a lot of loping, tubbed out muscle cars at the track yesterday but after the first pass no one seemed anxious to line up against the the Z. The next pass we dropped the tire pressure and Eric went out and ran a 9.4 @142 with a 1.37 60'!
It was definitely an exciting moment and somewhat unexpected considering we hadn't even turned the boost up. He was only at 24 psi yesterday, and there is considerably more power left in the car. We hit 36 psi on the dyno here while tuning a few weeks ago, which I've never seen out of the Z1 GT675RS (GT2860RS) kit. But you have to consider the stock heads/cams, nitrous, and how the TH400 loads the engine. I got some really good footage of the 9.4 run but as I was focusing in on the time, I realized I hadn't hit the record button :( So we obviously had to make some more passes! We left the boost alone at the 24 psi and the and Eric went for two more passes before they shut it down. Pass #3 9.7 Pass #4 9.5 I've enjoyed the opportunity to work with Eric the past couple months on getting his car down in the 9's. He's an awesome guy to deal with and a great drag racer. It's nice to have customers who really go out and represent our cars in a postive way. Eric's car still has a valid tag and registration, he even drives it to work from time to time. I'm hoping he can keep it that way and we can keep dropping down the ETs. We'll be down in Montgomery next Sunday where Eric is planning to compete.
