If you look at a stock lifter, they are drilled through their center to allow oil to lube the cam lobe directly. By design, the solid lifters cannot be drilled to allow this oiling to occur. While I wouldn't let that stop me from running them, I do think that it will reduce the service life of both the lifters and the cams. But hey, parts of this nature were never conceived to run indefinitely, their main purpose is to allow the valvetrain to rev beyond 8000 or so RPM. They do this by removing the potential for hydraulic lifter pump up at elevated RPMs and they are considerably lighter.
