My only comments are that it may render that turbo unservicable
by any kind of warranty, and it may mean you can not have that
turbo rebuilt, and expect a warranty.

Also, ideally, the sensor would be dead center as that's where
the greatest concentration of heat will be.

Are you using a sealed bulb sensor or an open sensor? I'd
highly recommend the sealed sensor... it's slower, but is
designed to not break off. Every EGT gauge I've seen on the
market has an open sensor.
Ie, Closed sensor;
