Message Unfortunately, about 3 hours after I got to ZCON I noticed a bottom end knock in my SGP motor. It happened all of a sudden as I was looking for a parking spot in front of an advance auto parts store. Imagine that. I would assume that it should have happenned under load or at least on the way down on the 1k mile trip and I am damn lucky that it didn't.

So that I didn't ruin the entire motor and turbos with metal in the oil, I called AAA and got a tow truck and sent my baby to Ash's shop for some R+R ( less than 30 miles away ).

Once there ( Sunday night ) we looked over our options and decided what was the best plan to get me back on the road by Friday morning as I needed to be in Virginia on Saturday to attend a wedding. To complicate matters, I needed to make it to the Orlando Airport on Thursday to pick up my girlfriend - so time was short.

Having the Demon Z already there the question was to

1 ) get the Demon z up and running
2 ) pull the motor out of the Devils z, determine what went wrong, and fix the issue
3 ) swap the motor from the Demon Z to the Devils Z

We chose option #3 as that was the least amount of pain. Ash felt that either I lost a rod bearing as I had the issue before and had the motor warrantied or a rod bolt came off. Either way, we probably didn't have the time to fix the motor correctly. Since I already had a IPP motor with the same build up ready to go, it seemed like a no brainer to do the swap.

Ash ( and his shop help ~ Jimmy ) worked on my Z the entire week of ZCON, missing all the events including the hot lapping event that he was registered to attend.

He also coordinated a surprise for me with my girlfriend. She flew in a day early and her support greatly got me through the entire experience.

Below are some pics of the work / install that was done in really 2 days ( Monday pulled motor, Tuesday installed new motor with manfolds, Abeler manifold and exhaust switch, Wednesday morning - driving the Z ! )

It turns out that it was a good idea to do the engine swap. We found out that all the bolts for the tensioner had no resistance when pulled off and that the timing belt had almost 2 inches of slop in it. If I skipped a tooth on this it would have ruined the motor. Seeing this, I am really curious as to what Ash finds in the bottom end of the oil pan on the motor that was pulled out of my Z.

By Friday morning, I had 200 miles on the motor and we spent 1.5 days going through oil leaks, antifreeze leaks, and boost leaks.

Friday afternoon I drove to Richmond, Virginia and Sunday morning I drove back to Delaware.

Today , I did an oil change and started boosting away !

Now I need to replace some of the items I swapped off of the Demon Z ( Manifolds, exhaust, down pipes ), get the 2.5 inch intercooler piping when ready, and R+R the short block ... to get the Demon Z on the road ...

ASH / JIMMY - many thanks for getting me on the road and the work you did was as usual top notch !
