Message at the location of the stock fan there is still a "dead" zone as you so call it that still produced a lack of air that should flow through the radiator.

Being a complete shroud to encompass the entire core the airflow is being pulled through the entire core from the tip of the fan blade all the way to the base where it meets the main portion of the fan assembly. If the fan produces 3000+cfm at peak voltage then the fan airflow is utilized from the entire area.

The one thing that I would do is incorporate 4 rubber baffles so when you are in motion air also blows through not only into the core where the fan is pulling through but the baffles will slightly flex allowing directional airflow across the core to pass through faster cooling the core more efficiently. This is very easy to do if done properly.

Main thing...if the fan flows its suggested amount and is located in the center and pulls the required amount of airflow evenly across the core thus keeping the temp down there is no problem what so ever in where the fan is bolt just so long as it pulls evenly.

The stock fan shroud though offset for the clutch fan it still pulls through the entire core of the radiator and still has a voidance that you speak of where the fan assembly bolts to the clutch fan. No matter what...if the fan is producing its required flow rate its cooling the radiator.

Here is a quick photo of what Im trying to explain:

Keep in mind the baffles can be shaped any design you want..I merely made these to flow with the contours of the pic I fabbed up. For mbolins case..he could merely make like a square flapper door and he should be fine.
