Heres what I got from Art today: From: "Art" Subject: RE: 2007 National Z Car Convention: Event Regulations and Entry/Medical Forms For the PDX/Club Trials Track event at Daytona International Speedway Date: Mon, 13 Aug 2007 12:22:02 -0400Adam, If your car is a licensed (has tags/plates) street car with street DOT 120MPH+ speed rated tires, no roll bar is necessary unless it is a convertible. A roll bar would be required if a car is a convertible vehicle, regardless of whether it is a street car or not. If your car is a "track car" or one that has racing slicks, then yes, it will need a roll bar meeting SCCA specs too. The "factory roll bar" that came with a 300ZX convertible is not sufficient to meet those SCCA regulations. If your car is one of these cars, you would need a proper bar. However, I would not suggest that you install such a bar because it will have a negative impact on the value of your car. The only option I can offer if your car is a convertible is to drive someone else's car in the track event or withdraw from that event and concentrate on having fun in either or both autoxes where a roll bar is not required for a street tired car.
