Make sure you do at least a boost, compression and spark plug check to make sure everything is in order. Given that many miles I would guess that the compression is good but you never know. As far as the factory gauge goes, I almost blew my motor when I was experimenting with boost jets. I thought I was running 14psi(stock gauge) only to learn after installing the autometer that I was running close to 17psi. I was wondering why I was detonating so much at 14psi lol. Last but not least check anything on the car you can check until you feel comfortable with it. With an 8k mile car I would be double checking everything just to make sure I am not at risk of ruining an original barely broken in engine. PS: Lots of pics please :)
