The 350Z had slightly more aggressive lines, targeting the younger crowd. The Z symbol was originally about value for your bucks, so it could be marketed for less with less high-market options. The G35, on the other hand, had more conservative and sexier lines. Those things usually capture the "more sophisticated" person's eyes, one who earns relatively more money. They can extract more money from such a person, and such a person is more likely to opt for high-dollar options. Why not keep the Z with Nissan and market the new luxurious G with Infiniti, Nissan's upscale brand.
