one reason is that once you rebuild one of these you realize what a total PITA they are to work on - and how costly. Unless you really have an enfatuation with Z cars, it isn't worth it - a lot of guys find this out after the fact. Just my 2 cents, but I think your first impulse is right - get the NA. I know I'll get flamed for that, but let anybody try to tell you that these are not high maintenance cars and you can be sure they are selling you a bill of goods... I will concede that 'from the factory' the TT is pretty dependable - but once they leave the factory and are modified, everything past a performance exhaust and intake - they are definitely high maintenance. Some of the board veterans describe the TT as a 'detuned race car' - and race cars aren't built to be dependable, they're built to go fast. Even a stock TT with 138K - you can plan on some expensive repairs. The problem is that quite literally you need to pull the engine to do some work, and face it, nobody buys a TT so they can drive it like a granny back and forth to church on Sunday. If you do get the car make sure it had the full 120K service, get a compression check, and a full service history - then get a good set of tools! :-)
