Buy the cleanest, lowest mileage, most pampered Z you can find. If you can get a great deal on it, all the better. Unless you're planning SERIOUS upgrades, the 96s' differences are pretty irrelevant. In fact, differences between the model years for a Z32 are basically details: You want a pass. airbag, or not? R-134 or R-12 a/c? Driver's airbag or not? Free-standing spoiler or "wave" form? Electric HICAS or hydraulic? OBD2 or 1? The essential car really didn't change all that much through the years, so unless you're hard-up for any of the minor options I mentioned, the model year you select won't matter. The quality of the car, on the other hand, will. Would you rather a 96 with 100,000 miles that sat in the sun all its life, or a 90 with 10000 miles that lived in a garage? How about a 96 with 10000 miles for $5k more than a 90 with 160000 miles? These are the questions you really need to look at to determine the best car you can find for your money. Good luck!
