I think the most common reason for not, is when upgrading to a bigger radiator, the shroud doesn't fit well anymore, without some cutting, I just haven't gotten around to trimming mine down. I've driven in all kinds of hot with no shroud, and I haven't noticed any difference between the temp with or without it. The main reason why I don't like running without it, it's a bit more dangerous when tinkering around in the engine bay with the engine on without the shroud for obvious reasons. So, do you need it, not really, should you use it, yeah, probably, it will direct more air on the radiator with it in place, have I noticed any difference in my temps, no, do I still have all my fingers, yes
