| Message | Keep costs down and get an AMD platform, in all honesty you do not need performance so either AMD or Intel will do and AMD is just cheaper (price wise), we are not talking about gaming on a Carputer so processing power doesn't need to be ALL the way up there...power consumption is key. A laptop 5400rpm hard drive will be better for the needs, it can handle the tolerances better, there is again not much need for the difference of 5400rpm vs 7200rpm hdd. But if you have the money get the 7200rpm, faster it spins the theoretical more heat it'll generate so ;) XP all the way, or Linux, DEFINITELY NOT VISTA, too unstable, unproven and power hungry for the needs of a carputer. The bottom line is keep in mind you don't need the most powerful and latest hardware, a lot of the software is designed for low CPU usage as it's a simple data log or monitoring software, not a superbly CPU intensive program like a video game or photo editing. Do have at least 1GB of RAM so you can keep all the programs running at the same time smoothly. Hmm all i can think of for now
