Message At a shop, I doubt you will be able to get a fresh motor installed for less than $3000 but you may hear some numbers that sound much better. I am pretty sure the top Z shops in the country sell rebuilt motors with forged pistons and such for right around the $3k mark. I just had mine rebuilt with JE pistons for right around $2750. For me, a rebuilt 0 mileage motor with stronger bits was the way to go but as you can see, it isn't costing me near $7k as my labor charges shouldn't be totaling over $1500.

Anyways, I would go through all of your options before make any abrupt decisions. There is always the steep and scary path of JDM motors. Source a good motor and and install shouldn't cost you more than $3k.

Sorry about the dirty Z and alley picture. This is the farthest the car has made it out of the garage in a little over a year. :)
