Here's a little more of my thought process: 1) I have about $2700 saved up for repairs at this point; I was really hoping to keep it under $3k, again because I can't see sinking 100% of the car's (fixed) value into fixing it. 2) It would be a second vehicle (obviously) at this point; it would be driven infrequently, and I don't have anywhere to store it anymore as my mom is selling her house (and of course the attached garage) so I'd have to park it outside at my apartment. 3) I agree that if I were with the car I could probably get more for the performance bits by parting out the vehicle, but I'm 800 miles away and neither my wife nor my mother knows enough about the car to supervise the parting-out, nor the expertise to remove parts, nor anywhere to store the vehicle during the parting-out process. So Microperformance would have to cover that, and I'd certainly expect to give them a cut of the proceeds. 4) I'm wanting a bigger boat, which requires a bigger truck than I have right now, so if I had $8k to spend on a vehicle at this point, I'd be getting a '98 (or so) deisel Ram 2500 so that I could tow the boat I want to get. If I had a house with a garage and all the time in the world, then I'd probably just tow the Z from AZ to TX and do all the repairs myself over the course of several months or even a couple of years. But I don't have a house, or a garage, I'm in the military so I move a lot, and I'm busy as hell so at this point I don't have the time to sink into a project car. This whole situation really bums me out because I love my Z to death, I have a ton of mods & upgrades on him, I just had a bunch of stuff under the hood chromed right before I put the car in storage, and I miss having all the power I could ever want just under my right foot. (My little truck only has 90hp.) If someone has an idea of how I could get the vehicle in excellent working order for $3k or less I'm all ears. (Or eyes, as the case may be.) At this point I'm looking at a minimum of bent valves and a head job; that's a ton of labor right there, plus any parts involved; and as I mentioned before, the shop said if that's all I do there's a good chance the engine would be a "smoker." Which would definately piss me off after spending a total of $5k on it over the course of a year or so. 8/ Thanks again for any more ideas y'all might have. I'm going to make a decision one way or another by the end of the week.
