Message of the sensor in your post. The post is about downpipe not exhaust manifold. The uppper limit of DP egt is 1350, upper limit is 1550 in exhaust manifold. As an engineer you should know that the turbine section of turbo absorbs the heat energy, hence the downpipe temps are lower than before the turbine section. My egts measured in the exhaust manifold 850c -900 C measured 2 inches after the exhaust port on the back cylinders from my old set up. Not a "Gut Feeling" as you put it.
