Message The kits you see on the internet that are designed to put on that display of gayness use a sparkplug to ignite the remaining unburned fuel. However, a more natural cause (if you consider a leak natural) is an exhaust leak. It is caused by a gap in the piping that allows cool air to come in and mix with the unburned fuel and when that touches hot exhaust piping, it ignites. Its common when letting off the gas from WOT. I had an exhaust leak in my old Beetle that I couldn't fix and caused this problem. I didn't care too much, its just a Beetle. My exhaust leak was caused by my exhaust pipe not making great contact with the head due to the exhaust bolt being striped by previous engine owner. I couldn't remove the old nut due to it being rusted over. It didn't seem worth it to me to chop the bolt, grind it, drill through it and tap a new hole. I could have easily bought a used head in good condition for cheaper than the trouble of fixing the problem. I just didn't have the time to go through the process of changing it (motor has to be pulled in that car).
