Message And I'm not kidding...I like you ;)

Welcome to the TT.net forums....

I wasn't trying to take a jab at your (personal) driving skills, but rather the driving skills of the average new driver. I won't say a year on the road by yourself gives you a huge leap, but if definitely grants the comparative advantage.

As for what car to buy...honestly, I'd go with the advice to get a beater. 300zx TT insurance is quite high, even as old as it is, and the firebird's reliability is...sub-par, to say the least - a little research will shed some more light on that subject. I don't know what areas it is sub-par (ie, the DIY fixes, or the 2 grand knockouts), I wish I could give you more information.

In my opinion...if you feel like you can love and take care of the car - ie, no road racing (you've taken driving lessons...go take a couple road course/autocross lessons and have fun on the track, not the road), then do what you want. It's your money, it's going to be your bill.

If it came down to the Z32 or the Firebird...I, being biased, would pick the Z32, though I might say pick up a naturally aspirated first. It's going to be cheaper, not so high insurance, and you can learn your way around it...

Two or three years down the road (maybe sooner, maybe later), you still have the car, still love seeing people turn their heads, think about doing a TT swap if you're mechanically apt, or maybe selling and buying a TT.

All in all, it comes down to whatever floats your boat...just make sure you do some research...and welcome.
