Thats like saying that the stock driveshaft is more reliable because it is stock. Stronger parts are going to last longer, it would be completely idiotic and counter-intuitive to swap out forged internals for stock internals for "reliability". And with the fuel thing, you can have a safety barrier or you can reduce lag, can't have both. Tuning it to be slightly rich will help safety because it will keep cylinder temps down, but the richness will also cause it to be slightly laggier because you aren't getting optimal burn. I would use other methods to help with lag other than an aggressive tune.
