| end of the connecting rod to obtain the proper bearing-journal clearance of ~0.0011 to 0.0018". All aftermarket bearings that I know of are the STD grade, which is several ten-thousandths per bearing smaller than the grade (size) of bearing typically used from the factory. Most aftermarket conrods are also sized to STD (ref: FSM: EM) so it is very likely that the combination of the aftermarket rod and aftermarket bearing has left an excessive amount of bearing-journal clearance. In this part of the engine it is critical that you get it right - the VG's are very particular about rod bearing clearances and if it isn't dead-nuts, you are going to have issues. Given that you used STD sized bearings, I'm not inclined to believe your crankshaft was reground, but given where you are at now, the crankshaft is toast. Do not regrind the crank and use undersize bearings - it will fail in short time. Get a good used crank or a brand new one and rebuild from there.
