Message not an easy task
very involved if your up for the challenge.
i'll explain to you what i went thru here in Ontario

but 1st things 1st...
before you even think of becoming a dealer theres some things you'll need to get in place.

Owning a Dealer is no different than owning any other kind of business.
1st you'll need to have all your other business licenses in place like a Vendor's Permit, Tax numbers(here its GST and PST numbers).
You'll also need to register a "RIN" number at the ministry of transportation.(personally owned vehicles are licensed to you with your name and birth date attached... a business requires a different number....here its 9 digits)
At the same time, you'll need to apply for a Dealer plate for transporting your wholesale purchases.
Now, in order for you to get all of the above, your business name/dealer name is required to be "incorporated".
So you'll need to take your "Articles of Incorporation" to the lic bureau first.

Then you'll need to find out if theres a "governing body" that overlooks all the dealers in your state.
I would most likely assume that one does exist. Here, its called "OMVIC" (Ontario Motor Vehicle Industry Council - [ www.omvic.on.ca ])
This "governing body" would be managed and owned by the federal government.
The 'governing body" would be the place that issues dealers licenses, salesmans licenses, establishes a code of ethics for dealers in regards to marketing, they may also convict and revoke licenses for illegal dealings, operations and curbsiding.

Its manditory here in Ontario that anyone whom sells vehicles have a salemans lic to retail cars.
So check if its required in your state.
Most franchised manufactures require any dealer principal or salesman complete specific courses in regards to this.

Lastly, you'll need to have a business plan introduced to the "governing body" as to what you plan on doing.
1) New + Used Car Retailer
2) Used Car Retailer
3) Wholesaler
4) Leasing company

The 1st 2 will require you to at least have means to some property for proper presentation and a garage for servicing.

The 3rd option is self explanatory, you would be strictly a wholesaler. You can buy wholesale pieces thaDBD::ODBC::db prepare failed: (DBD: st_prepare/SQLAllocStmt err=-2) at incl_db.pm line 314.
t dealers don't want and sell them to other dealers as wholesale units. But not retail. Here you don't necessarily need a car lot or a garage.

The 4th option is what i am.
Im a registered leasing company which gives me the ability to purchase New cars at fleet prices and sell them toDBD::ODBC::db prepare failed: (DBD: st_prepare/SQLAllocStmt err=-2) at incl_db.pm line 314.
people on a lease program. Here your not required to physically own a lot of property or stock a lot of inventory. An office with view and parking is all you'll need.

Oh yeah...the most impDBD::ODBC::db prepare failed: (DBD: st_prepare/SQLAllocStmt err=-2) at incl_db.pm line 314.
ortant thing... a clean criminal record!
Its manditory here in order to get granted a dealers license.

The nice benefit when becoming a dealer is the ability to go to all and any manufactures auctions and bid "wholesale" on them.

Have a look at this site [ www.omvic.on.ca, ] you'll gain some knowledge thats worth while.

hope all my info helped
cheers
Mike
