Look at the center where the splines are, it is raised about 1" on one side but flush on the other. The raised side would hit the flywheel and maybe even prevent the pressure plate bolts from reaching the threads. Just looking at the whole assembly I think anyone would assume the raised side goes toward the pressure plate where there is plenty of room for it. But I could be wrong. At any rate, if it was put in backwards it must have seemed like a very problematic install by the mechanic/bonehead that did it. lol Hope they figure it out for you
