| I'd be willing to bet that there is a lot more to that statistic. That takes into consideration single vehicle accidents. Single vehicle accidents are almost always the fault of the driver/rider. And I will agree that single vehicle accidents are a bit problem with sportbikes in particular. You have to realize that this skews the data quite a bit. From personal experience I can say that people not paying attention while driving is a MUCH larger threat. I probably dodge at least 2 unattentive drivers a day in my 30 minute commute. They didn't do anything stupid, but they didn't know I was there. At least once a week I have someone do something truely stupid around me. I've been pushed out of lanes by people who think I don't need a full lane. I've had people nose out to block me while lane splitting in stopped traffic (perfectly legal in CA). I have no control over what a person in a car is going to do. I can only do what I can to avoid it. I have a lot more control over whether I go down on my own. If I'm being dumb and pushing the bike my chances of having a problem start to go up. And if something does go wrong, its most likely my fault. I can own up to that. But in the end, I have a lot of control over that than what a person and a car can do to me. This may seem paranoid but there is a lot of bad blood from people when it comes to motorcycles. People like to assume that we're the reason for any accident that happens in which we're involved. That simply isn't true. And trust me, at some point, that same hatred is going to be put on sports car drivers. How many times have you read articles about car accidents where it was said that the modified car must have been at fault because it was a 'fast car'. As if thats probable cause. Sorry for the long reply, but this whole thing gets on my nerves.
