I decided to make some nixit blocks to make my life a little safer. You remember these cool jack up blocks, right? Thanks, Ni[x]it. (Does he make great drawings, or what?)
Well, I decided that I did not want my tire resting on air in the middle of the tread, so instead of the top row of 2x4's, I used a 2x12, for a solid top:
Then I decided that the top block would be "better" (IMHO) if it had two short pieces of 2/4's on the bottom to support the middle, like this:
. So when both blocks are stacked up, they look like this, with full support all the way to the floor:
Thanks again to Ni[x]it for the original design. If you are as paranoid as I am, I suggest you consider the beefed up design shown above. For my stock wheels, 24 inches overall length works fine. If you have bigger wheels, you may need a longer length. The width is 11 inches, since that is the width dimension of a 2x12 at my lumber store.
