Ideally, and professionally, Ti has to be welded in an atmosphere of strictly inert gas. Basically there are "bubbles" (similar to a sand blast booth) with gloves and TIG torch inside. The welder then opens up a bottle of most likely argon to purge out the entire booth. Considering the size of the exhaust, it would probably have to be done in a 3 or 4 glove set bubble, giving the welder enough access to the material. If the weld comes in contact with oxygen in the air it ruins the weld, your system might as well be made of cold rolled steel. I got to do some Ti welding last week actually, and its really crazy stuff. I got to do it on Ti sheet, without a bubble, but only because a special jig and torch cap was used to shield the weld area. That method won't work well on anything but sheet.
