| will be based off of credit rating ( good or bad ). The thought process basically is that the individuals with higher credit ratings will have a lower claims rate ( or the funds to fix their vehicle on their own if it's their fault and the cost is not high. Typically higher credit scores will have higher deductibles also ~ which means lower payouts on claims ). What will happen though is that the folks with poor credit ratings scores will have premium increases and eventually through attrition cancel their policy and go elsewhere to a high risk provider / specialists. Thus leaving the said company to seek to replace that revenue stream sacrificed. Having a smaller customer base ( if their credit policies are too tight ), they will have no other option but to eventually tighten their credit pricing strategies on the customers who originally got a price break. Thus the price increase at time of renewal or right after a claim is intiated ( there are models in place that predict how many years between accidents / tickets for the average driver - all based on odds and demographics ) Look at it this way, for the price decrease that you got, someone else got a similar increase and if they can find cheaper insurance elsewhere, they will cancel and will usually do so. I'm not saying that this is good or bad. Just explaining how the pricing works.
