for which you have applied for credit or where you have given your social security #. For example, cell phone or utility bills where they check your credit, credit cards, mortgages, auto loans. Without a social security number a collection agency can not file anything on your credit report. Too easy to get the wrong person. Even with a social they get the wrong person. I've seen them mix up Jr. and Sr. names all of the time. Have you ever pulled your credit report? As I said earlier, collection agencies work on commission and they threaten consumers into believing that they can attach things to their credit reports. Unless the collection agency is trying to collect a bill that is associated with your social security # there is nothing they can do to your report.
