Message In short I have zero compression in every cylinder. We thought I may had gotten lucky at first. We installed a new tensioner and belt to see if we could turn the motor by hand without feeling any binding. If the valve stems were bent, they would bind on the valve guides. Well, it turned easily, we were hopeful, right up to the point when we did a leak down test. 90+ percent leakage on every cylinder. That told the whole story, and the fact that every cylinder was dead is odd in itself. Because there is no binding, that implies that the valve stems are not bent. But, when a piston hits a valve, the stem almost always get bent. Mark thinks that what happened is that the valves hit each other, not the pistons. Because the valves are oversized, when the belt let go, both the exhaust and the intake valves may have opened at the same time, hitting each other, not the pistons. A spec of carbon caught on the valve seat can cause a 90 percent leak down, so it would not take much of a hit between valves to cause enough deformity that would cause total leakage. We pulled the motor today, and will tear it down tomorrow. I may have gotten lucky and found a relatively quick source for new valves. Because they are oversized stainless steel they have to be custom made, but I may have found a set that were made for someone else, but were never picked up nor paid for. If this pans out, the machine shop said they could rebuild the heads in 3 or 4 days. With any luck, and as long as we don't find any other major damage, I may just make the race here in Houston on the 8th. Wish us luck.
