Message	I later read that is a myth. It is cycling that weakens the spring over time not keeping it compressed. It takes hundreds of thousands of cycling to weaken the spring. On a slide spring is recommend to get replace after 3000-5000 rounds depending on the brand. To have a weapon for self defence requires quick access. A gun in a safe isn't exactly quick access. I can understand if you have kids living in the house.
