system isn't as sensitive to the caliper's radial position, or even the pad's coefficient of friction, as you and Jehannum believe and thankfully so. In order to be effective throughout the vehicle's service life the system needs to be tolerant of "imperfections" in the system. Moving the caliper outboard radially is no different than swapping in a set of pads with a more aggressive coefficient of friction. Similarly the ABS system needs to remain effective even with the cheapest off-the-shelf pads available. Guess what, the ABS system DOES still work with very aggressive pads, very poor pads, and even (gasp) a change in radial position of the caliper.
