Message A few months ago someone on the forum asked "what is wrong with the stock viscous LSD." Here is what I said…basically nothing is wrong with the stock LSD…until you push it very hard. I drag race and I noticed that my 60 foot times would consistently get worse after about 3 runs. I initially thought it was just engine heat soak and dismissed it until I began data logging my runs with my RaceLogic Traction Control. Turns out, in my case the stock viscous LSD gets very hot after about 3 passes and begins to loose effectiveness. I noticed on the data log of my launches that my left rear wheel would spin faster than the right wheel by almost 6MPH. I installed a Kaaz LSD and problem solved…except the Kaaz is unbearable on the street. It’s a clutch type LSD and is incredibly noisy and really throws the car around when accelerating or decelerating in turns, almost scary. I then installed a Quaife ATB LSD and now have the best of everything. Constant torque bias between both rear wheels, very quite operation and no forced over or under steer in corners like I had with the Kaaz Clutch type LSD. Horse Power Freaks.com has information on the Quaife LSD’s. I would not recommend a clutch type LSD for the street. If you drag race or road race the Quaife will be awesome, if not, the stock unit should be fine, they are very strong.
