Ok .. I finally got all my annoying oil leaks taken care of since ZCON at SGP last summer ( use search ).

Had to drill out the oil drain plug in the rear oil galley near the passenger turbo. This was done in the car without removing the engine. Then heli coiled a tapered NPT plug with JB weld on the threads and then over the plug itself -- guarantied not to leak !

original Labree Ulitmate Downpipe post

Below are my honest unbiased observations. Read it for what it's worth , look at the pics and make your own conclusions !!!

After the Labree Ultimate down pipe install on the driver side, "we" ( I wasn't there !! ) installed the new used 40k Miles TT M/T I acquired from Z1 ( thanks Russell and John !! @ Z1 Website ~ looking forward to seeing you guys at the Z nationals and hitting the dyno on Saturday ! Got a surprise for you also ~

Then "we" installed the passenger side Ultimate downpipe. Below are some pics of the install. The pipes are 3 inch and are a very tight fit to everything ( tranny, fire wall, etc ). But they do work and bolt up with no fab work. Changing a clutch or doing tranny work will require an ultimate downpipe removal on the passenger side.

The tranny can be taken out without pulling off the driver side ultimate downpipe. I think it's ones personal call if the effort is worth the time.

Driving home I noticed an immediate spool increase and the power ( butt dyno ) felt stronger from 2k up. I didn't rev much because my boost controller was spiking. I believe that this is a result of a base boost increase over my previous setup. I plan to reset the HKS EVC 4 tonite.

Kong Z stopped by and gave me a ride to pick up my Z and bought his new SZ expansion downpipes over. I have to admit, after seeing a set in person.. I AM VERY IMPRESSED. By looking at both, I can not tell which will be better. The SZ are top notch quality and will be easier to install. There has been much commentary on which one will produce more power and I look forward to a dyno comparison by someone someday.

Even if they are the same rwhp or the Ultimate Downpipes produce more power, the average Joe might want the easier labor job associated with the SZ Expansion downpipe.

If you are looking for max power regardless of cost and the effort to install, I am not able to speak on which route to go at this time.

The real test would be to have the Labree Ultimate downpipes and the SZ Expansion Downpipe with the 3 inch test pipe. I do not have a SZ 3 inch test pipe so I just went with my install instead of performing a flawed test for now ( my random tech 3 inch pipe ( pictured below ) have gutted cats and will have more turbulance than a straight test pipe ). Anyway enuff with the ramble , on to the pics ...

Sorry about the blurry pic

Look at those fake cats !

Pretty close to the tranny

Kong Z and Tony ( owns a 92 stage 5 TT and Cherry Hill Nissan Master Tech )

passenger side - pretty close to the fire wall ( can't tell from this angle / shot ) --I might have to dent the firewall if the 3 inch downpipe touches ..time will tell, 2.5 inch ultimates should have more clearance.

driver side turbo -same clearance concerns with firewall

driver side

Old setup - 3 inch random tech

-----pics of the new SZ Expansion downpipes !!!! I'll let the pictures speak for themselves -----

Tomorrow I can start taking a look at my dual wideband o2 gauges ( I took off from work just to drive the Z ) under load to see how far off the tune is with these downpipes. Labree told me that they saw almost 1/2 point leaner on their test car. I am expecting to be able to re-dyno and get close to 700rwhp on race gas.

this might be of interest to someone. I used my conzult software on my laptop to diagnos a few problems a month or so back including a faulty oem 02 on the passenger side turbo. I got the 02 installed and had some idle issues. I used my conzult to enable "self learn". I highly recommend a Conzult for every Z owner. I purchased mine from Z1 about 2 years ago and it's paid for itself ( tt.net search !! ).

Below are a few screenprints for those who have never seen / used it before.

Just random info about the map in the ECU ( pump map ~ You can see that Ash has the map labelled)

and oh yeah --the beginning of another project !!! .. First: OEM hood and second: side squirts ..
