I wanted something very sturdy for my workbench at the back of my garage so I went with the modular steel riser setup you see at Home Depot and Costco. There is a place called Rusty Racks near Seattle (off 167) that recycles them and you can buy a bench setup for $50. You can also buy them new (they come powdercoated) for much more. They cut the legs to the height I wanted in a few minutes on a stationary band saw.
Couple hours sanding and then epoxy and I had a bench that doesn't move with a nice 42 inch deck height. I used inch and and eight plywood for the top and bottom shelves.
I have a California Closets wall system for the side of my garage to hold everything else.
