Having driven both (client had a 92 NSX), I feel just a little qualified to talk about it. If you want something to modify and want it to be very quick (acceleration) and/or very fast (top end), the 300ZX dominates the NSX in both cost and effort to get those results. Well, in most areas anyway. When it comes to cornering, it'll take some money to get the Z into the same category, if at all. The NSX, on the other hand, feels far more nimble out of the box but it will take quite a bit of work to get the straight line acceleration that the Z32 has. It'll also peak much sooner than Z32 will when it comes to power the motor can handle. It's lighter, which helps a lot, but they were never quite light enough to overcome the power shortage. I always hoped in the late 90s they'd find a way to squeeze ~350hp out of it or drop it to ~2,600lbs. Basics aside, I must say the NSX is a sleek, exotic car and is quite fun to drive right out of the box. I feel it's a great weekend/fair weather/cruising car. It'd make a great addition to a collection if you had disposable income to burn but it's no replacement for the Z, in my opinion. God forbid you get into an accident with it because you can almost guarantee the insurance company will salvage it...but that's a whole story =)
