with synthetic,I think even that is overkill. Today's oils and engines can go alot farther between oil changes. Check your owner's manual on any car you own and you'll rarely see 3Monts /3Kmiles anymore. That old 3months/ 3000 miles is an old way of thinking. Even when the Z was brand new in 1989-1990 it had a sticker under the hood saying to change the oil every 5K miles. I've had VW Gti's that did'nt get oil changes except for every 7500K miles per the owners manual...All went 175K + miles before they were sold (running well). My 1993 Chevy Cavalier, which I only use the cheapest oil I can find, recommends 7500 mile oil change intervals...It just turned 201,000 miles last week and feels like it has another 100K in her. I've done every oil change on it since new and sometimes I went 9-10000 miles between. If it makes you feel better to change at 3K miles..(it makes me feel better with my Z) then it's cheap insurance but by no means do I think it's a necessity on a stock or even close to stock engine. Everybody has their oil change stories and opinions -This is just mine. Just my .02 Rob D.
