Message I personally know four people (including my brother) who have had to replace their transmissions on lightly modded Z33s. Two of them were 03s, one was an 04, and the last one was either an 04 or an 05. I heard that Nissan has done a total of 9 different updates on the Z33s tranny, and the final update should be a lot stronger than the previous attempts. I don't know of anyone who has installed one of the newer transmissions, so I'm not sure if the issues with the previous transmissions have been fixed.

Additionally, the final drive on our cars (both NA & TT) would not work well with the Z33s tranny ratios. The reason is that the auto 350Z comes with a 3.3 final drive, and the 6sp comes with a 3.5 final drive. The majority of 6sp 350Z owners switch to the 3.3 (auto) rear end when they go FI, because the gears are too short with the 3.5 final drive. My brother's car was a full bolt on NA with the 3.9 rear end. After driving his car, I can see why it would be impossible to use the Z33 tranny on a Z32, especially if you have the NA rear end. Even with a TT rear end, the gears would still be too short and you would end up with excessive tire spin.

In a nutshell, the Z33s transmission is not stronger than ours, and it does not work well with our cars. Therefore, it is pointless to put in all the time and effort to make it fit the Z32.
