Message about 3 options

1) Cryno treating
2) PPG
3) OS Giken / Spl parts
4) Z1 possible upgrade using known / reputable gear maker

Cryno treating:
Spoke to Titan Motorsports tech area: they said on their 1400rwhp Supra and some customer cars they have found that cryno treating the gears etc doesn't add significant benefits to warrant the cost. Just delaying the inevitable.

PPG:
Titan suggested a company called PPG

This is a common upgrade for Subarus. John Sheppard uses this core setup in his car and packages it as a "Sheppard tranny upgrade" ( runs 7 and 8 secs Eclipse / Evos ). He is pretty well know in the DSM community.

From speaking with Kuah and Russell, they both have some concerns with the life expectancy and noise levels. Kuah says the gear box needs to be serviced with the PPG too often to make it a street application. Russell has stated based on his experience any "Dog Engagement (Dog ‘box)" tranny is really too noisy for street use. So I am unsure about this. I do know that the DSM / Subaru markets use these upgraded trannys heavily after modding their cars with high rwhp. I do know that the gear ratios are shorter similiar to the Giken setup. There is a fourth gear. Total retail cost is 8k AU.

OS Giken Gears :
From talking with Kuah, this setup is close to bullet proof. However he is unsure if it comes with fourth gear. Says if it doesn't, possible option is to use the 4rth gear for the Skyline. I will know something in a few days after he makes a few calls. Significantly cheaper than PPG setup. However, may or may not come with 4rth gear and will shorten gear ratio ~ lower top speed. Does not require frequent rebuild.

Z1 option:
Possibility ( if enough interest ) to warrant custom stock gears to be made to keep stock gear ratio yet strenghten gear box. Will know something in a few days to determine if feasible $$$ wise. I am confident if Z1 could get a financial commitment ( group buy or something like that ) this could be done. Just not sure about the demand.


I am not sure about my path, but based on what I saw in my tranny - 4rth gear is my real concern. In a perfect world I could keep the stock gearing and upgrade all the gears ( strength wise). I wonder if it is wise / possible to just upgrade the 4rth gear and the countershaft gear that interacts with it. Based on the wear patterns that I saw and my previous tranny failure ~ 4rth gear most concerns me.
