years back on nanotechnology and the woman giving the lecture kept talking about building "one atom at a time" with regards to nanotubes and nanomachines. At the end of the lecture I approached her and asked her the question of molecular stability when adding one atom at a time given that the states of a given atom's bonding characteristics will be affected by just adding single atoms at a time and it seemed that it would present an incredibly complex "balancing act" to get the atoms to do what you wanted. She just looked at me with a mile-long stare until her attention was shifted to another person asking questions. She was/is also regarded as one of the most brilliant scientists in the MSE department at UF. *shrug*
