I'm leaning on the Rebel given the excellent track record as being one of the best sub $1000 DSLRs out there. If money is an issue, I still think you should try to skip over the sub $500 cameras out there and maybe wait for the Nikon D40. It's reported to be one of the better entry-level DSLRs by taking most of the features of the more expensive models and pricing it around the $600 mark. From what I've read, the D50+ owners are a little pissed because they paid a lot more for only a few things beyond the D40 and it has some features of it's own that are pretty nice. That being said, I still think Canon > Nikon by a lot but I'm sure the D40 (building off the D50's success) will be a good camera. Unfortunately, it's not out yet (or if it is, I haven't seen it). It was supposed to be soon. [ http://www.dpreview.com/articles/nikond40/ ]
