| An autopower weighs about 80 lbs, this cage is about 140 lbs. We used thinwall tubes to reduce weight. Besises safety, the most important thing a cage does is to add chassis stiffness. If you look at the top World Challange cars, DTM, and BTCC cars they all have elaborate cages with many tubes and a lot of gusseting. At least the top ones do. Stiffness really helps the suspension works better, allowing much higher spring rates with a smooth ride. It also greatly increses the senstivity to suspension adjustment. If you have ridden in a real race car that's set up correctly you would be suprised how smooth the ride is even with spring rates 3-4 times stiffer than stock. A good cage is the backbone behind any sucessful road racing car.
