: They cannot keep up with demand, and they deem its not profitable to build more...hmm...that makes sense since htis way they can just raise prices and create massive profit margins, while guaging the american public. They are not gauging the American public, if it is worth it to create new refineries, new companies will enter the market. Look up the corporate history of a gas company called QuickTrip : I also, suggest you examine who heads up that commision I beleive you will find that vp due boy cheney is in charge...which thusly fits in well witht he bush administrations favoring of the upper class. Bush doesn't favor the upper class, per se. He favors an economic system that rewards those who are successful. For example, if it isn't worth it for me to try and succedd because >50% of my income goes to taxes, I will not be a very productive member of society...heck, maybe I'll work for the government. It may not be perfect, but I think it is the best system availible. : Its not OPEC...its gool ol' greedy americans right here at home. This, also makes a better case for ol georgy boy to petetion to have the national oil reserves tapped..ie off teh florida coast and in Alaska..this stinks of the "Teapot Dome" scandal of the 1920's. THe demand for crude oil is not whats in question, its the refined stuff thats $$$. I agree with you on drilling in Alaska, I hope he drops it. : ITs a big mess, and we are toppling towards depression and war. No, a recession, maybe. The causes for the recession are more than just gas prices. Look at the economic boom of the last few years, greatest expansion in memory, unemployment was to low, etc. All of this was created by a false sense of demand created by the internet. Now that the sector has cooled, there are ramifications. Remember, per every "core" job (used to be manufacturing jobs in the '50's) created, ~9 non core jobs are created. Just my $.02.
