the resellers do have a cartel. There are 5 companies in the US that refine oil into Gasoline. Of which Shell is the largest and most powerfull. Competetion really does not exist in the gas market. And yes the profit margins have gone through the roof. Has, the price of crude oil increased that much in the last 2 years? No, back in 1999/2000 we were pretty much at teh same mark. Its the American refineries that have buckled down and created htis mess, because under the current political climate they know they can get away with it. People are paying a much greater markup for electricity in dereguilated california...so it only makes sense that the oild companies would seize their opp, to make more money as well. What, we need here are federal guidelines ont he pricing of gas,a nd federal regulation there in. Very similiar to the way in whcih energy and telcom were once regulated. ITs been prooven time and time again, when you deregulate the damn bottom drops out. That is teh plight of the CLEK company.
