It definitely makes it easier if you know someone, since they can get you in with them at a discount (I was quoted $10 over the phone by a SEMA rep). Otherwise, you have to jump through some hoops and pay $50: SEMA Attendee Registration As you can see, you have to prove you work for an auto-related company. I suppose if you already had an EIN you could try to pass off your business as auto-related somehow....? Otherwise invent a cool aftermarket part no one has thought of, get a booth, sell it and make millions, and buy one of those 200 mph supercars! :p
