I'd definitely recommend basically any Sony Cybershot. All the one's I've owned have been VERY durable (ie doesn't shatter when I dropped them on pavement, concrete, grass, etc) take great pics, and they also tend to have really good battery life as well. I currently have a DSC-W5 and I'm actually looking into getting that N2 if I couldn't find a Nikon d50 for a good price before the end of the year. The gigantic viewscreen is also a plus for a lot of current Sony cameras, definitely very helpful. Picture quality during the day is great, night though you would need a tripod so it's not blurry.
