Subject	seems to me that either the pearl was the wrong color

Message	or the black base coat wasn't actually black, but a very dark blue(Blue and red make purple, black and red make a dark red). Try this, black base coat, metallic overlay, pearl overlay, transparent red coat, then clear coat. Ive seen it done and it looks fantastic but I don't know any names of specific colors that were used.
