| that I had here from another motor. Making them adjustable wont get rid of the noise. The noise, I suspect, is coming from the internal helical gear developing slop over time. The valvesprings load the cam during valve opening and once the cam lobes peak and roll to the downside of valveclosing, the spring tension accelerates the camshaft and the slop in the helical gear is taken up to its end, causing the noise. I started the engine for a few seconds after putting the belt back on (no water pump, radiator, hoses, t-belt covers, etc) long enough to build some oil pressure and the replacement VTCs aren't rattling.
