Message My sister has an 03 Xterra, 4 banger and rwd only, and it is a great suv but very anemic on power. Very dependable.

I have driven an 03 Pathfinder, rwd auto, and it was awesome overall; better than all other suvs. Just pricey, but if you're willing to pay then it's your best choice.

I recently drove several 97-01 Honda CRVs and 01+ Ford Escapes. The CRVs drove great but they only come with a 4 banger and are also weak, but they have a 4wd option and are cheap on top of being very highly rated. The Escapes surprised me and drove great, slightly better than the CRVs and they also have a 4wd option plus a V6 option.
I don't know anything about the 02+ CRVs or Honda Pilots, which are another consideration.

I don't know anything about Toyota 4Runners, Trailblazers, Explorers, etc.
The most important thing is that you go out and drive all of the potential suvs you would consider buying. Then you can research the ones you like and find out their dependability, ratings, etc. and make your choice from there. Good luck.
