Message What product are you looking at? Most of what I see in the fan control section are basically just thermostat switches. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you are trying to say, but wouldn't those be used to ALLOW the fans to cycle on/off as needed rather than to stay on constantly? The cycling on/off of the fans is what keeps the coolant at a constant temperature under the various working conditions that it experiences while driving.

The cycling of the fans is used to try and keep the temperature constant. Temp goes up, fan comes on, fan cools things off and temp goes down, fan turns off. If you leave the fans on constantly, it can cool the coolant beyond the optimal temp range, which would simply cause your coolant thermostat to close off until it built up enough heat to open again. So you'd effectively be cycling your coolant thermostat rather than your fans, which seems far less ideal to me. Especially since--if the fans keep running--then the coolant in your radiator gets even colder while then coolant inside the block heats back up to operating temp.

If it's a well engineered system, the thresh-hold for turning on should be around the upper edge of the optimal temp range and the thresh-hold for turning off will be about the middle to lower-half of the optimal temp range. This should allow the coolant temp to stay within the optimal range. If the system is designed very tightly (powerful fans, good water pump, and precise thermostat switches that turn on/off at the properly selected temps) then you should be able to keep the temperature in a very tight temperature range. By cycling the fans on and off, you ARE effectively keeping the coolant at a pretty much constant temperature.
