so, it's always been a desire of mine to build a VG from the ground up. That way, I can truly "trust" the motor since i would have an infinite amount of control over the process. So I figured I'd take my time and build a motor over two years. I'm looking for a bulletproof, responsive motor that will make 450-500+ rwhp on california piss 91 that will have a fat powerband from 3500 to 8000RPM. I don't want to cut any corners, and judging by my power goals I probably have to stroke it. I have a ROUGH idea how much everything will total up to, but having never built a motor myself I'm sure there are a lot of hidden nickel and dime costs that can bury me in debt halfway through the project. I've got basic hand/air tools, but really don't have a handle on how much extra tools/measurement equipment, stands, porting/coating/machineshop services, etc will run. Assuming I do as much of the labor on my own as possible (sans machining), are we looking at a $5000-$10,000 build, or $10,000 to $20,000?
