| instead of the ususal "road" bearings with the soft layers of metal to imbed small grains of dirt. The stock Z32 bearings have the soft outer layer and can imbed dirt, but can fail under knock faster than aluminum bearings. Z31 fully "AL" bearings tend to eat the crank a bit, instead of the crank eating the rod bearings. (Unless the crank is nitrided) They also take an incredible beating when the engine knocks. They are also becoming OEM on newer performance motors from Japan. They are nothing new. If you beat the hell out of them, they will eventually fatigue and pit, but they don't tend to shed layer after layer, like stocker bearings. They were recommended by Mike Smith, from MS Performance, who makes the iron manifolds and built Mike Kojima's motor for Sport Compact car magazine.
_MWS Disclaimer: Some people have confused myself, Michael Smith of MWS Motorsports with Mike Smith of MS Performance / Jim Wolf Technologies, featured in Mike Kojima's Sport Compact Car magazine Project Z articles. While the comparison is flattering, it is important to make the distinction. Please help spread the word by always try to refer to each "Mike Smith" by their respective companies. |
